Mustafa Okur

I am an assistant researcher at the University of California Irvine. My main research in our lab focuses on investigating perturbed biological pathways leading to aging and age-related hearing loss (ARHL). ARHL is one of the most common progressive disorders affecting elderly individuals. It impacts the quality of life, increases social isolation, and the risk of dementia. Nearly half of the population experiences ARHL by age 65, with medical and productivity costs in the billions. There is no current treatment for ARHL. As the global population ages, the prevalence and cost are predicted to increase dramatically. I use biochemical, cellular, and electrophysiological techniques to address this unmet medical condition.
