I have been studying ion channel physiology, pathophysiology, structure and function since the start of my PhD research in 1994. I have a broad background covering zoology, molecular pathology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and have expertise in techniques ranging from infrared and circular dichroism spectroscopy to cellular electrophysiology to mouse genetics. I am very grateful to have been funded by the NIH since 2004 to study ion channel physiology, excitable cell and epithelial biology and pathobiology, emphasizing the KCNQ and KCNE gene families, and also solute transporter structure-function. My lab covers a range of different organ systems, physiological processes and diseases, their crosstalk and underlying molecular mechanisms..
